Underneath The Feathers: Darker Bird Skin Protects Against UV Light

Biologists from the University of Ghent discovered that bird skin becomes darker towards the equator. Tanned skin protects birds from harmful UV light. This evolutionary pattern was already know for humans and reptiles.

3 Million Year Old Skeleton From Port of Antwerp New Puzzle Piece In Whale Evolution

Paleontologists have described a new baleen whale species that swam around the North Sea some 3 million years ago. Antwerpibalaena liberatlas is an extinct cousin of the modern right whales.

Scan of Small Crocodile of Bernissart Reveals New Details

125 million years ago a small crocodilian was living in our regions alongside the famous iguanodons. Now, the skull of ‘the small Bernissart crocodile’ has been scanned.
